Insecure Writer's Support Group

Hey everyone, it's time for the Insecure Writer's Support Group blog again so be sure to stop by AlexJCavanaugh.blogspot.com to check in on what everyone has to say. In this group we try to encourage other authors, and we offer support where we can.  The question this month is:
What are your pet peeves when reading/writing/editing?

  • If I'm reading someone's book for review, it's annoying to find things like spelling mistakes, or sentences that run on forever. Even with spellcheck you may miss things like; hair or hare, there or their, etc.  We don't always notice that we've started two or three sentences with the same word, like You or I.
  • It's easy to overlook words that are often not needed, such as: so, also, I guess, maybe and then. I think writing is generally more concise and more interesting without these words.
Hope you're enjoying the summer everyone. Thanks for stopping by.
